Moving Facilities
Where poles, lines or other
facilities of Jackson County Rural Electric are requested to be moved for the
convenience of the person or organization making the request, the actual cost of
such work may be charged to the requesting party.
Temporary Service
A temporary
service panel, for construction purposes only, can be provided, normally only
for a service intended for permanent connection. Your contract will entitle you
to use the panel up to six months. If you are not ready for permanent service at
the end of six months, a six month extension may be granted upon payment of a
temporary service fee. Our line construction to the temporary service location
will be permanent to the greatest extent possible, which may be to a meter pole
or the nearest Rural Electric pole required for permanent service or at the pad
mounted transformer when permanent lines are underground. The panel will provide
an outlet which will take a loading of 50 amperes at 240 volts, plus a 20
ampere, 120 volt outlet that is GFCI protected. The contractor or builder must
provide his circuiting and GFCI protection from this supply point.
Temporary
service panels are not suitable for service to manufactured homes, campers,
recreational vehicles or occupied structures, and may be removed if abused for
such purposes.
Pedestal and Panel Services for
Mobile Homes, Campers,
and Recreation Vehicles
The Rural Electric will provide
service to a combination meter and service panel (rated up to 200 amperes) to be
located on its pole or pedestal within 30 feet of the mobile home or vehicle
site. Each panel will be owned, installed and maintained by the Rural Electric.
Security Lighting
We have "Security Light" service
available for outdoor all night illumination at your home, farm or rural
business. We offer three sizes of standard lights and directional lights, which
are automatically turned on at dusk and off at dawn. These units may be
installed on existing Rural Electric poles where unmetered service voltage is
available (but not on buildings, signs or private poles), or may be installed on
added poles for an additional service charge. Our security lights are for rental
purposes only and are not for sale. Rates and installation procedures are
available from our office upon request.
Member Wiring
Member wiring installations are
expected to meet standards established by the National Electric Code and
regulatory bodies having jurisdiction. We are ready to assist you in determining
wire sizes to serve new loads or when you rework your present electric system,
both inside buildings and about the home or farmstead.
Programs and Speakers
Rural Electric personnel are
available to give talks and presentations on energy, conservation, electric
utilities, electric safety and other closely related subjects. Contact our
Member Services Department if you need a speaker.
Surge Suppression
A full line of surge suppressors are
available for purchase from the Rural Electric. These include whole house and
plug strip suppressors. Installation is also available.
Energy Use Consultation
The Rural Electric can provide
information and consultation concerning electric energy use in your home or
business. A representative is available to perform energy audits or make
inspections in regards to energy concervation or in response to excessively high
bills.
Used Poles
The Rural Electric occasionally has
used poles in stock for personal use by its members. Please contact our office
for information on availability and costs.
Idle Services
The Rural Electric has many locations
where service facilities are in place but are not in use. Our policy on removing
these idle services is that it will be done when requested, when a contract has
been defaulted, when it is clearly dangerous, or when the service has been idle
for several years.
Back-up Generator Connections
An emergency generator can be
connected to a member’s wiring system when its installation has been approved by
the Rural Electric. It must be connected to the member’s wiring through a
double-pole double-throw transfer switch which makes it impossible for both the
Rural Electric wiring and the stand-by source to be connected at the same time.
If the member wishes to own and control his own switching equipment, it must be
approved by the Rural Electric before connection. You may prefer for the Rural
Electric to install, own and maintain a transfer switch in conjunction with its
metering installation. The cost of a Rural Electric owned unit is available upon
request.
Wiring Recommendations
To help provide standards for both
laymen and experienced electricians, the Rural Electric will provide written
wiring recommendations upon request. We will schedule on-site meetings to
discuss procedures and options to help insure that design, materials,
workmanship and applications of the member’s electrical system will meet the
requirements of the Rural Electric and be consistent with the National Electric
Code. Contact our Engineering Department if you would like wiring advice.
