What's happening in REMC Country?

Contact us at least two weeks in advance to list your not-for-profit organization's special event on our website. Be sure to include a phone number we can call during the day to verify the information before it is published. Contact us at least eight weeks in advance for your event to be published in our monthly newsletter, "Watt High Lights", which is mailed to our members at the middle of the month.

 

The REMC is continuing to collect aluminum can tabs for the

Indianapolis Ronald McDonald House. 

Drop your tabs off at our office, or save them until

the 2010 Annual Meeting on July 22.


 

Our next office closing will be on September 6, 2010, for Labor Day

A crew will be on standby to take care of outages and emergencies.

July 25 - 31 -  Jackson County Fair

 

August 20, 21, 27 & 28 - Jackson County Community Theatre presents the comedy "Over the River and Through the Woods" at 7:30 p.m. each evening at the Royal-Off-the-Square in Brownstown. August 21 - 51st Annual Chicken BBQ on the courthouse square. Sponsored by Washington Masonic Lodge, Brownstown. Serving from 12:00 until chicken runs out. $6.00 meal consists of half of a barbecued chicken, slaw, bread, and baked beans. Drinks and dessert will be available. Meals are eat-in or carry-out.

 

August 28 - Jackson County Drug Free Council Road Rally beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Girls Inc. on N. O'Brien Street in Seymour.  Early registration - $35.00; day of the event registration - $45.00.  Rally includes a scavenger hunt and prizes.  Proceeds benefit the Drug Free Council's mission of reducing substance abuse in Jackson County.  Contact Beth White (812-523-8630) or visit www.SCENICROADRALLIES.com for more information or to pre-register.

 

September 10 & 11 - Brownstown Melonfest - 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. both days. Free stage entertainment, contests and activities. Food, crafts and flea market vendors. Parade on Saturday. For more information call the Brownstown Chamber of Commerce (812-358-2930).

 

September 11 - MelonFest 5-K Run/Walk sponsored by the Brownstown Exchange Club. Sign-in at the Jackson County Park in Brownstown at 7:00 a.m. Race begins at 8:00 a.m. Free T-shirts are back! Entry fee is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for juniors 16 and under. Pre-register by contacting Don Neal (812-358-4809) or download the entry form at www.brownstownexchangeclub.org.

 

September 18 - Annual chicken barbecue and porkburger fry & antique tractor drive. Food served dine in or carry out at the Cortland school beginng at 4:00 p.m. Tractor drive leaves the fire station at 10:00 a.m. Proceeds from the events benefit the Hamilton Township VFD. October 25 - Annual boutique & luncheon in the Immanuel Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Seymour. The boutique is open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (dine-in or carry-out). September 4, 5 & 6 - 50th Annual Labor Day Antiques, Collectibles, Crafts & Flea Market in historic downtown Vernon. Market times are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Dealer spaces (10' x 12') available @ $50 for 3 days. August 21 - Sept.7 - A traveling exhibit from the Indiana Historic Landmarks will be on display at the Scott County Heritage Center & Museum . Exhibit includes 30 pictures of historic property or artifacts. These photos were chosen for the traveling exhibit during the 50th anniversary of Indiana Landmarks. September 25 - Raptor Days - Enjoy special events all day at the area’s only rehabilitation facility for birds of prey at the Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Rehab Center at Hardy Lake. Park admission of $5.00 per carload charge.

September 25 - 7th annual Franklin Township School reunion at the home of Bob and Jane Marquand, 790 S. Franklin School Road beginning at 4:00 p.m.. Weekends now through November 29 - The restored Beck’s Mill will be operating and open for tours. The nonprofit group Friends of Beck’s Mill, Inc., will greet visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
