What's happening in REMC Country?

Contact us at least two weeks in advance to list your organization's special event on our website. Be sure to include a phone number we can call during the day to verify the information

before it is published. Contact us at least eight weeks in advance for your event to be published in our monthly newsletter, "Watt High Lights", which is mailed to our members at the

middle of the month.

 

The REMC is continuing to collect aluminum can tabs for the

Indianapolis Ronald McDonald House. Drop your tabs off at our office,

or save them until the 2008 Annual Meeting on July 17.


 

Our next office closing will be on Monday, May 26, 2008 for Memorial Day A crew will be on standby to take care of outages and emergencies.

May 16, 17 & 18 - 15th Annual Spring Bluegrass Festival at the Norman Station Conservation Club.  Free music from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.  More than 21 bands will perform during the 3-day event.  Camping, food, music, raffle.  For more information or to reserve a campsite call 812-869-0850.

 

June 5 - Brownstown Chamber of Commerce annual dinner meeting at Pewter Hall in Brownstown. Social hour at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. Contact the Chamber (812-358-2930) for more information or to make reservations.

 

June 7 - Saddle-Up for St. Jude’s trail ride sponsored by the Jackson County Spurs and Wheels Saddle Club. All money collected will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Arrive at Munk’s Mule and Horse Camp by 9:00 a.m.; Riders will leave at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be furnished and served on the trail. The ride is 10 miles and will take approximately 4 hours. June 9 - 13 - St. Paul Lutheran Church Day Camp at Borchers. Many activities each day and evening for children and adults alike. For more information or to register contact Carolyn Jones (812-522-7364) for more information.

 

June 15 - Sparksville Park workday - Volunteers needed to clean-up the park and install a new basketball goal.  Work begins at 9:00 a.m.  For more information contact Nancy (812-966-2326).

 

June 19, 20 & 21 - 42st Annual Grassy Fork VFD Truck & Tractor Pull and Fish Fry - June 19 - antique tractors (1958 and older) and kiddie pedal pull beginning at 6:30 p.m.; June 20 - pure farm, super farm & pro stock tractors beginning at 7:00 p.m.; June 21 - pure farm, pro stock & "hot farm" tractors plus street stock diesel trucks beginning at 7:00 p.m. For more information contact Phil Teipen (812-522-0305), Tracy Wehmiller (812-522-6686) or Brian Tape (812-358-5566).

 

June 21 - A Taste of Wines and Blues festival to benefit the American Red Cross. Hosted by Ael Beka Estates, 941 N County Road 250E, Brownstown. Wine tasting, food and live music. June 21 - 2nd Annual Sparksville Heritage Day - Ptich-in dinner, white elephant sale and lots of reminiscing for families and friends of the Sparksville area.  Dinner begins at 12:00.  Proceeds from auction benefit the Sparksville Heritage Days fund.  For more information contact Nancy at 812-966-2326.

 

July 11, 12, 13 --  Freetown July Festival.  Stage entertainment, baby contest, corn hole tournament, inexpensive games and free activities and contests, parade, garden tractor pull, 5K walk/run, vendors, food and lots of fun.  For more information call 497-2103, 497-2514, or 497-3737.

 

July 13 - Tri-Kappa 5K Run Walk - 1:00 p.m. beginning at the Freetown Park. Event is being held in conjunction with the "Freetown Festival in July." Entry fee - $15.00 before July 1; $18.00 after July 1. Proceeds benefit the charitable works of Epsilon Phi Chapter, Kappa Kappa Kappa. August 23 - Tri-Kappa Women’s Volleyball Tournament at Brownstown Central Middle School. Event is being held in conjunction with the Brownstown Watermelon Festival Entry fee - $90.00 per team before August 13; $100.00 August 14 - 22. May 10 - Hayden's Bluegrass-Gospel Music Show held in the Hayden Museum pavilion.  Pre-show at 5:00 pm with featured bands starting at 6:00.  For more information contact Don Tatlock (812-522-8327).

 

June 14 - Hayden Junefest from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 14. Bluegrass and gospel music in the pavilion and other attractions open during the day, including the Hayden museum, Sullivan blacksmith shop, restored Sinclair gas station, Zack’s pottery shop and Bill Holmes’ sculpture gallery. June 14 - Safari Bike Ride in Pekin. The course will have several tours ranging 8 to 60 miles. Entry fee is $20.00 before May 25, $30.00 after same date. Kids under 10 are free. More information can be found at safaribideride.com. Sponsored by the Pekin Community Betterment Organization.

 

June 14 & 15 - 21st Annual Washington County Piecemakers Quilt Guild Quilt Show at the Stevens Memorial Museum in Salem. Show hours - 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday; 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Entries are open to the public and will be accepted on June 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A $3.00 admission includes entry to the Stevens Museum and Railroad Depot.
